President Donald Trump held a phone call with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday, during which the pair agreed to "meet soon."

The call lasted 45 minutes, and the two leaders discussed the release of British Israeli national Emily Damari, who was held by Hamas and was released as part of the ceasefire deal with Israel, as well as the two nations' economic relationship, according to a White House readout. Trump also offered his condolences to Starmer after the prime minister's brother died from cancer shortly after Christmas.

Starmer also lauded Trump's role in the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that was established just before his inauguration, according to the prime minister's office.

Trump had high praise for Starmer just before the call when speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, acknowledging that while they differ philosophically, they nonetheless have a "very good" relationship.

“He’s liberal, which is a bit different from me, but I think he’s a very good person, and I think he’s done a very good job thus far," Trump said, adding, "He’s represented his country in terms of philosophy. ... I may not agree with his philosophy, but I have a very good relationship with him."

The call between the two leaders follows comments Trump made to reporters earlier over the weekend suggesting that his first international trip as the 47th president could be to the United Kingdom.

He said the trip "could be" to Saudi Arabia, or "it could be U.K. Traditionally, it could be U.K."
