Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) foreshadowed an "offensive capability" to deter spies and restore national security in the U.S.

For weeks, Americans reported sightings of car-sized drones all over New Jersey, notably in Bedminster, where Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) lives and President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course is located. Since then, drones have been spotted above New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, California, and Utah. Both presidential campaigns reported foreign hacking into their systems. As the incoming national security advisor, Waltz called for a more aggressive response.

TRUMP’S ENERGY AGENDA IN THE NEXT ADMINISTRATION: A CLOSER LOOK

"Look, we have to stop trying to just play better and better defense," Waltz said on Sunday Morning Futures. "We need to start going on offense. We need to start imposing consequences for those that are stealing our technology, spying on us, and now with a program called Volt Typhoon has put cyber time bombs on our critical infrastructure like our water, grid, and our ports."

Last year, President Joe Biden opted to shoot down a Chinese spy balloon. The Federal Aviation Administration is threatening "deadly force" against the anonymous drones after it temporarily banned drones from the airspace above New Jersey and New York. It is already against the FAA regulations to man drones after sunset and before sunrise when these drones have been spotted.

Should Waltz be nominated by the Senate to serve as President-elect Donald Trump's national security adviser, his seat in the House will be emptied. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will call a special election to fill it promptly after.
