In 17 days, January's Supplemental Security Income check, worth up to $943 for individual filers, will be sent to eligible recipients.
The Social Security Administration will issue SSI payments to eligible citizens on Dec. 31.
The program gives payments to those living with debilitating disabilities that may affect their income.
The amount the SSI checks are worth for beneficiaries depends on their status, with individuals getting monthly $914 payments and eligible couples receiving $1,415 payments per month. Essential persons, people who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, get monthly payments of $472 from the program.
The requirement that recipients get their checks by the first of the month means that when the first day of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, the SSA issues SSI checks the business day before. Because Jan. 1 is a federal holiday, the payments will be issued on Dec. 31.
In 2025, there will be five instances after January’s payment in which beneficiaries will get their payments earlier due to that rule. The February, March, June, September, and November payments will be issued earlier than the first of those respective months to ensure recipients have their SSI payments by the start of those months.

The first SSI payments were sent out to recipients by the SSA in January 1974, with payment rates adjusted in line with the cost of living since 1975, per the SSA. SSI checks are different from other payments sent out by the SSA.
Regular Social Security payments, mainly for retirees, are issued on a different schedule each month from SSI payments and depend on the recipient’s day of birth. Those checks are sent in three waves each month.
